By far the most significant news for Bay Village in 2009 (and 2010) has been the indefinite delay of the Columbus Center project which was to be a large-scale commercial office space, residential condo, and hotel development meant to cover the airspace over the Massachusetts Turnpike that borders the entire left side of Bay Village. This project would have produced years of construction and a beautiful commercial and residential site linking Bay Village to the South End - but for now is on hold until new financing can be obtained. Until then, Bay Village residents are happy about the completion of the newest and closest hotel - The W Hotel Boston - located one block from Bay Village in the Theater District.
