Where is Boston's Bay Village?
Located right on the border of the Back Bay, the South End & Midtown/Theater District, Bay Village is a quiet tree-lined enclave. Bay Village is encompassed in zip code 02116 which also includes parts of the Back Bay & South End (use these zip codes for your Ballast MLS Property Advanced Search).
Why Live in Boston's Bay Village?
Bay Village residents can enjoy all of the activity of the Back Bay, the Theater District, the South End & Chinatown without letting much of the noise or traffic in. Its expertly planned series of one-way streets serves as a fortress – accessible to only the most knowledgeable city driver. Because of this beneficial (and intentional) layout, Bay Villagers enjoy their quiet tree-lined streets and their exclusive Bay Village-only street parking but enjoy all of the other benefits of being right in the City as well. Steps from Boston Commons & offering easy access I-93 N/S and I-90 E/W, Bay Village is a great choice for professionals who work in the Back Bay or the Financial District, empty-nesters seeking the convenience of a condo in the City, and students at Emerson College, Tufts Dental School, New England School of Law or any of the other schools within close walking distance to Bay Village.
Emerging Bay Village Real Estate Trends:
Bay Village has benefited from the momentum of each of its neighboring areas – including a wave of upscale modern furniture stores from the Back Bay & Midtown, and several excellent and very popular new restaurants such as Davio's, Avila, Erbaluce & Market attracting the Theater District’s audiences. Sensing this momentum, existing residents as well as developers have renovated many of Bay Village’s brownstones creating a new supply of improved properties in this very small neighborhood. By far the most significant news for Bay Village in 2009 (and 2010) has been the indefinite delay of the Columbus Center project which was to be a large-scale commercial office space, residential condo, and hotel development meant to cover the airspace over the Massachusetts Turnpike that borders the entire left side of Bay Village. This project would have produced years of construction and a beautiful commercial and residential site linking Bay Village to the South End - but for now is on hold until new financing can be obtained. Until then, Bay Village residents are happy about the completion of the newest and closest hotel - The W Hotel Boston - located one block from Bay Village in the Theater District.
