Why Live in East Boston?
Located on Boston Harbor, East Boston offers some of Boston's best views of Financial District towers and the waterfront – whether by day or by night - and some of the best property values. Residents also enjoy some of the freshest & best Italian, Brazilian, & El Salvadorian food in the city for about 1/3 of the price. East Boston provides a great access point for residents who work in the Financial District (who are 2 T-Stops to the State Street T-Stop) or who work North or South of the city with quick access to all major roadways (I-93N/S, I-90E/W, & Route 1 & 1A). Because of its geographic location as a peninsula jutting into Boston Harbor, East Boston provides a sort of waterfront urban getaway for residents who are surprised to find that they don't have to contend with any of the noise or congestion of commuter traffic cutting through any part of their neighborhood. East Boston has only 3 sections - Jeffries Point which is the waterfront section jutting out into Boston Harbor, Orient Heights which is up on a rise overlooking Charlestown & Chelsea to the West and the Financial District to the Southwest, and the Suffolk Downs Area which is has long rows of multi-family clapboard style homes with some single families scattered throughout and a higher mix of industrial/commercial surrounding Suffolk Downs and farthest from the Financial District.
Emerging Real Estate Trends for East Boston:
With the completion of the "Big Dig", East Boston is connected to the South End & the Financial District via a quick 8-minute car ride through the Ted Williams Tunnel. A wave of renovation has swept the area's historic former ship captain's homes perched atop Jeffries Point transforming the area. New homeowners rate it as one of the City's most quiet & low-key neighborhoods with over 40 acres of new waterfront park space, a new soccer field, a new baseball field and 2 state-of-the-art T/subway stations (Maverick & Airport T Stops) serving the area. With new residents happily established at the 2 most recent large, multi-unit loft-style developments, "Porter 156" and the "Paris Flats Lofts", the neighborhood continues to enjoy the benefits of both private developer and city & state investment. Slated for new construction, but currently stalled due to financing issues, are 3 waterfront communities jutting out into Boston Harbor to be built on old pier sites no longer in use – adding upscale restaurants & storefronts, marina slips, and luxury condominiums – all with stunning views of the towers of the Financial District & Boston Harbor. Though these large condo projects are stalled, East Boston has experienced some of its highest sales volume in 3 years in 2009 in the multi-family sector of the market. Many buyers who wanted good real estate deals in the last 18 months have been happy to find them recently in East Boston - whether in search of an inexpensive multi-family building or a new renovation condo. With beautiful new parks, significant government infrastructure improvements, including the state-of-the-art reconstrution of the Airport & Maverick Square T-Stops - East Boston, with its cherished, quiet, "away from it all" feel remains one of Boston's best-kept and most affordable secrets for homeowners.
