Where is Boston's Financial District?
The Financial District is surrounded on all sides; Beacon Hill to the West, Chinatown to the South, the North End to the North, and the Seaport District to the East. Financial District real estate is encompassed in the zip codes 02109 & 02110 (use for your Ballast MLS Advanced Property Search).
Why Live in Boston's Financial District?
Flanked on all sides by Boston’s best neighborhoods, theaters, parks, and waterfront, the Financial District has always been known as the place where all of those long hours of work get logged by many of Boston’s professionals. Though in past years, the Financial District has emptied out every Friday evening (except for the local pubs), the removal of the noisy I-93 Central Artery running right through the middle of the Financial District has made Bostonians re-think their assumptions about the Financial District as a residential area. With the final phases of the Rose Kennedy Greenway completed, the Financial District is experiencing a transformation.
Emerging Financial District Real Estate Trends:
The Financial District is still in its infancy as a truly residential neighborhood and still lacks the diversity of price-points for all types of Real Estate Buyers - i.e. almost everything is a new residential construction highrise - no inexpensive housing options! With the recent completion of the Intercontinental Residences & Hotel, the Financial District has its first super-luxury building with private gym, concierge & exclusive dining services for residents. Financial District developers also built 2 luxury residential high-rises at Broadluxe and Folio which were both completed during 2008 but were crushed by the financial debacle of 2008 and were sold at auction. These residences were sold at great discounts to the original prices; the developments are now filled with many new urban dwellers who can boast that they didn't have to pay full price.
