Where is Boston's West End?
Situated on land bordered by Beacon Hill, the Financial District, the Charles River and Storrow Drive. The West End is encompassed in the zip code 02114 (use for your Ballast MLS Advanced property search).
Why Live in Boston's West End?
Ever since the redevelopment of the West End in the 1950s urban city planning project, the area has been dominated by taller high-density housing (compared to nearby Beacon Hill’s brownstones), including many rental units focused on housing for the area’s Massachusetts General Hospital (“Mass General” or “MGH”). The area has many restaurants and local Irish pubs which attract weekday traffic from nearby Financial District workers as well as the throngs of fans who flock to the TD Garden to see the Boston Celtics, the Boston Bruins, and some of the City’s large-venue “stadium” music concerts. Combined with the fact that the West End is only steps away from historic Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market, there is much activity in the area.
Emerging Boston West End Real Estate Trends:
With the upscale overhaul of the Red Line’s Charles Street/MGH T-Stop, the West End is benefiting from the renewal of street-front commercial spaces extending up Cambridge Street, including the addition of a new Whole Foods Grocery Store in the heart of the West End. Sensing the momentum, developers have completed several new construction projects combining residential condo units with commercial and office space, including the newest Bowdoin Place, which created 80 new luxury residential units on Cambridge Street.
